They say that the best path to take is the one less traveled by. This is from the Robert Frost poem. It is called: The Road Not Taken. It talks about a fork in the road so to speak and the decision you are faced with. I was thinking about paths today and how paths are like the paths in life that lead you to the next step in your life. Robert Frost says that one of the roads can be saved for another day, but he doubted if he'd ever pass that way again. The road he chose made all the difference in the end. Why did it make so much of a difference? Was it because he got to see things that he hadn't seen before or did something just as or more significant happen?
It is hard to tell which road we should travel. It is always good to go for a stroll and just go somewhere you have never seen before. I want to go places I have never been and see things I have never seen. Sometimes I just go and take random pictures along my journey. I like taking pictures. Sometimes I see something that I don't take a picture of because I just want to appreciate being there at that moment and seeing this unique sight. Something that exists in a specific time and space. To capture it would be taking from it. It no longer remains unique or special.
I was walking along the bike path by Lincoln Fields today. I saw all these caterpillars on the cement. It is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk, although I have never tried it and doubt it would work. I picked them up and threw them into the grass. I was wondering if it felt like being shot out of a cannon for them.... I'd rather them take a landing than fry in the sun or get stepped on. I saw the ants carrying away the dried up bodies of the ones that didn't survive. I had heard that ants eat caterpillars, but I never really believed it. I was skeptical because ants are so much smaller than caterpillars, but I guess the ants can move much faster than caterpillars so it makes sense somehow. I know it is nature, but animals and insects can be so cruel to each other. People can be so cruel to each other...... What is up with the praying mantis? Why does the female bite the head off the male after copulation? Does she eat the rest of the body? Imagine if it were like that for humans.... That would be really messed up.
