Foot In The Door

So I met with the Cafe owner today. It went well.
He knows I'm just starting out and he made some suggestions.
He said he can give me some small tasks and see how I do.
All of it chalks up to experience.
He suggested a way that I can get some training.
He also suggested that I focus on honing the skills I already have.

I know that the market has high standards when it comes to graphic design,
web design and all this stuff. I know he knows that I'm not a professional.
But he's willing to give me a shot and I can't see myself doing worse
than the guy he already has working for him who was doing the menus.

What I'm going to do is go visit some other cafes.
I'm going to check out their menus.
I'm also going to check out how to increase resolution in the images
because he wants those images highest definition possible.
Also he said he wants to see how I do with video
because the menus have video on them.

I'm happy that I get a chance to do this. I'm gaining experience.
He'll see what I can do and if I do a good job, he'll give me more tasks.
It's a start and it's better than a rejection. He says he likes helping people.
I do, too, and I think he can see that in me.

I'll see what kind of programs are sponsored that he suggested
and see what is available in that direction.
I'll continue learning all that I can and improving the skills I have.
He's giving me an opportunity and I appreciate it.
So I will take it and see what comes of it. In a few months,
we'll see how it goes and I could make some money.
It's more about gaining the experience than making money, though.
And I told him that, he knows.
I think that's part of the reason he's giving me a chance.
Because he sees that I'm not running a scam, I genuinely have an interest.
It's a low risk thing because he's not paying anything upfront.
And he did say that if I do a good job, he can compensate me in the future.

It's just than in this industry, there's a certain standard of professional work.
A certain level of quality. Which I understand.
This isn't an art project that I can just slap together and hope for the best.
Everything has to be done extremely professionally.

Anyway, he seems like a good guy. He knows that everyone has to start somewhere.
And unless someone is given an opportunity, they aren't going to have one.

Overall, I think it went well and I'm really happy about the outcome.
He said he's going to send me the images that he already has for the menus.
So I can get the details of dimensions and I can get started on those.
So I think that if I can get something good done and given to him by next week,
we can start on the next thing. He says he's got tasks, but not enough 'manpower.'
He's just opening at his location. It's a big outdoor shopping mall.
I expected something much smaller. It's a small cafe, but it's in a pretty big plaza.
It was my first time going there. I don't venture into K***** very often.
But it was so great that he met with me and gave me a chance.

So now I have this going on. I'll see what comes of it.
If anything, it's a learning experience and there's nothing wrong with that.
There's also a learning curve, but stuff can be learned.
It's a matter of getting into it and gaining the exposure and experience.
Plus, proper training never hurts. If it's available, may as well take it.
