Do Something Great

I have an urge to do something. Not just anything, but something that will change the world. Not for recognition, just to feel like I haven't wasted my life. I don't really want to be remembered for it, just want to do something that will help a bunch of people live a better life. I was reading a book about freedom and what African Americans had to go through just to fight segregation and it amazed me that people could be so cruel to other people. Why is that? Why do we feel the need to preserve something that never really existed at all? I mean, we are all people and we all should have equal rights. Now we do, it wasn't always that way and a lot of people had to come to Canada to find that equality. The pictures in that book were shocking. I never really knew the extent of what those people had to go through during the course of history. They should be ashamed of themselves for treating other human beings how they treated those people. They burned down their houses, beat them to death... For what? What is the real reason? Maybe it was because they were scared of what they never really understood. Maybe everyone is scared of something, but fear is not an excuse. It should never be an excuse to do those horrible things to someone. We all bleed red.

What's even crazier is that over the thanksgiving weekend I read a news article in the Toronto star about a coalition of 22 Black community groups who are calling for things like seperate schools and court systems. http://www.canadafreepress.com/2005/weinreb101305.htm
Can't vouch for the writer but he refers to the article I read...I can't imagine the frustration of these people that they would be even willing to consider this after fighting so hard. I guess it just goes to show you that there is further to go...for everyone
