The other night, I was listening to the video, the one I added on here.
The one Joe Dispenza did about how thoughts can change our realities, etc.
I remember something someone posted somewhere... It was a quote.
I forget who said it...
But it was about how when we are more interested
in being aware of our thoughts
rather than the thoughts themselves,
that's when we find our way out.
What I've been noticing is how I tend to engage my thoughts
and how my thoughts engage me.
When I think about something that's been disappointing,
I feel disappointed.
When I think about something that I had an emotional reaction to
the thought itself engages me into the same emotional reaction.
And that emotional reaction becomes an experience
because I'm experiencing the same emotion.
The reason I keep doing it and have been doing it
is that I've gotten used to doing it.
I've gotten used to doing it because I have kept doing it.
I've practiced it, unaware that I've been practicing it.
However, I have the power to practice other things.
Like being aware of these thoughts that come up.
Being aware that I have the choice to dismiss them or entertain them.
Being aware that thoughts are just thoughts.
And I don't have to keep thinking the same thoughts.
I can choose to think new thoughts.
Thoughts that help me get to a better feeling place.
I read something recently: Just ONE positive thought
can change your entire day. Just ONE!
We can't think negative thoughts and positive thoughts at the same time.
They cancel each other out. They override each other.
There are many topics that I do not have to think about.
And there are many topics I could think about.
The thing is that the more we use the ability to direct our minds,
the more we get used to doing it!
The more we are used to doing it, the more we do it!
But it starts with being aware of what we are thinking about.
We can literally ask ourselves what we are thinking about.
"Hey self, what are you thinking about?"
The you literally tell yourself, "I'm thinking about..."
Then you say, "Do you have to think about that?"
More often than not, the answer will be "No, I don't have to think about that."
Then you say, "What happens when you think about that?"
The answer will be, "I feel (the emotion) when I think about that."
Then you say, "Do you have to feel that way?"
The answer usually is, "No, I don't have to feel that way."
Then you say, "How do you want to feel?"
Then you choose how you would rather feel,
and then you choose a thought that will elicit that emotion.
The more we do it, the more we get used to it
and the more we get used to it, the more we do it.
I'm aware that the reason I kept feeling sh*tty,
is because I've been used to feeling sh*tty.
I wasn't thinking thoughts that would help me feel good.
Because I wasn't aware that it worked that way.
I just kept thinking the same thoughts, repeatedly.
Wondering why nothing was changing.
I wasn't aware that nothing was changing because I wasn't changing my mind.
I wasn't aware that I can gradually get used to changing my mind.
Literally one thought at a time!
