Thank goodness for youtube.
Learning lots from there, but even some of what I am doing isn't working.
I'm thinking that the javascript is going to be a pain in the butt.
Mostly because it is unfamiliar territory for me.
I'm having lots of small little issues that can be fixed.
It's that I don't know how to fix them that is bothering me.
Like wanting to put a div inside a div next to another div.
It just doesn't go where I want it to go.
Then the other issue is the jquery. I'm supposed to make something toggle.
When I click it, it is doing absolutely nothing!
I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything the guy is doing in the video.
Another issue is that I am very stubborn.
So when I really want to figure something out,
I end up staying up all night until it gets figured out and implemented.
I'm surprised I got as far as I have over the last three weeks,
but I know I have a long way to go. It will probably take years.
It's like with any skill. Knitting was hard for me at first.
I'm still learning new stitches.
Thing is with knitting is there is always a combo of two stitches.
The knit stitch and the purl stitch which is a backwards knit stitch.
With crochet, there are a variety of stitches.
slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet etc.
But there are others like Tunisian crochet.
It's kind of like learning anything.
At first you don't know what the heck to do.
Everything is challenging and FRUSTRATING!!!
But with practice and patience, you get there.
It's just really hard in the beginning and you have to stick with it.
Or else you never learn it. Giving up is the easy part.
But giving up means never learning it.
People give up too easily these days. With lots of things.
The more effort it takes, the less they want to do it.
People seem to always want the easy way out. Quitting.
But quitting doesn't make life 'easier'. In lots of ways, it makes it harder.
Sure, we can live without knowing how to do lots of things.
But the more we know, the more we can do with what we know.
I doubt I'll ever be any kind of professional web designer/developer,
but if I don't stick with this, I'll never get anywhere with my project.
I already know that it will take years to get to where I want to be.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
Then one step after the next. Step by step.
Even when you lose your patience, you gotta keep your sense of humour.
