Tonight was a marathon of the t.v show called "Alone."
We had to stay up to see who won.
There were two that were doing pretty well
Who I thought it'd be down to, but I was wrong.
The guy with the best shelter tapped out near the end.
Four of them held on for so long.
The last guy lasted 56 days!
He was eating slugs and stuff.
Anyway, for anyone unfamiliar with the show...
It's a survival experiment. They find 10 guys
who have some wilderness survival experience
and they drop them off on the northern parts
of Vancouver Island.
There's bears, wolves, and cougars out there.
It's no walk in the park.
The person who lasts the longest wins $500,000
Being from the city, it's hard imagining what it'd be like
to live off the land for that long.
That show gives you a rough idea, but nobody really knows
until or unless they are or have been in or through it.
It seems pretty crazy. It's the type of thing that tests
your willpower, determination, and definitely your skills.
You definitely want to have skills in that situation.
I think the guy who won should have his own show.
(I'd say his name, but don't want to ruin it for anyone who wants to watch it)
He had a lot of things to say, he had a good outlook, was entertaining...
Just NO reason why he shouldn't have his own show.
The guy is just beyond endearing.
Well, today was an eventful kind of day.
Yesterday was, too. We went to my folks' place.
A family dinner thing to celebrate my brother's birthday.
He's the youngest of the three of us. (My siblings and I).
We had pumpkin ravioli, roast beef sandwiches, and cake.
I have to admit, I ate too much cake. I overdid it because
I don't eat cake very often anymore, and I kind of enjoy cake.
I've been eating a lot more the last three weeks.
Which is good, but haven't been exercising much.
Except for taking long walks every now and then.
The longest walk we went on was from Bayshore to Parliament Hill.
Took about 5.5 hours walking along the river. We got sunburns on our faces.
Well, I did. My boyfriend doesn't burn as easily as I do.
He looks like he has a tan compared to me.
Today we went to Hull, Quebec. Must say it is historic,
but not much going on over there. Probably why a lot of people
come over to Ottawa from there for work and stuff.
Ottawa is only across the river from Hull, Gatineau, Aylmer, Quebec.
Once you're midway across the bridge, or the river,
you're technically in Quebec. The border is the middle of the Ottawa river.
So we walked around and looked around. Ate, and returned.
Then we went to Nepean's Point, and then the Byward Market.
Then we went home to stay up all night watching "Alone" together.
I think maybe tomorrow we'll go out again, but there is no plan, yet.
My body says "sleep" right now, but my brain says "haha, nope."
A funny fact: my cat tries to stay awake with me,
waiting for me to go to bed,
but she always falls asleep next to me on the couch.
Even though she's free to go to bed whenever she wants to.
She has a bed in the living room, and a bed in the bedroom,
but most of the time she's on my lap, next to me, or in my bed.
I couldn't go away very long because I can't take her with me.
She's too old to travel far. She's 16 in people years.
I had my brother looking after her when I went to B.C.
He said she stayed in my room waiting for me for like a week.
I was gone 3 weeks. It literally took me a week of travelling
to and from B.C on the bus.
3 days there, 3 days back. It was crazy.
Most women wouldn't do it. They just wouldn't.
I literally met my boyfriend for the first time in person
when I got off the bus in Vancouver.
Which is pretty crazy. But he and I spent months talking constantly.
So we felt we had gotten to know each other pretty well.
As well as we could for only talking online and over the phone.
But I'm well aware of the risk it would have been otherwise.
Or could have been if he turned out to be someone
other than he said he was the whole time.
Catfishing is a real thing. It happens all the time.
But luckily, it didn't happen to me.
