Since we have to wait for the next episode of "Alone,"
We have been watching another show called "Naked and Afraid."
It's another wilderness survival show.
Where they are allowed a survival item, but only one.
Plus, they are paired with a stranger and they are both naked.
Sometimes they are in Africa, other times they are in the Amazon.
The days there are hot. But the nights are freezing.
They have to eat whatever they can hunt.
At first, everything is hard, but surviving for 21 days
means you get used to doing certain tasks.
The thing is that they run out of energy. Not eating.
People must consume around 1,500 calories per day.
Well, females need around 1,500 calories per day.
Males need around 2,000 calories per day.
Small things like mice are only 35 calories.
I can't see myself eating a mouse.
I know they have to eat pretty much anything they can get
just to stay alive, but... I don't see myself eating those things.
Just like that woman on the show 'Survivor'
She couldn't bring herself to eat the cow brain.
Her team lost because she wouldn't eat it.
Who wants to eat cow brain?! That's nasty.
Like on that other show "Fear Factor."
Where they have to eat whatever nastiness they have. It's gross.
I can't even watch them eat it without gagging and wanting to puke.
Shows what people are willing to do for $$$$money$$$$. No thanks.
On the show "Alone" they are doing it for a chance to win $500,000
On "Naked and Afraid" they are not doing it for money.
Maybe they still get some money for doing the show. I don't know.
I can't see myself doing a t.v show.
Do you ever get those feelings like your life is a version of "The Truman Show"?
Like everything could be a complete set up?
Like people are getting paid to be in your life?
Actors and extras and all of that?
Call me crazy, but there are times I get those feelings.
Like: "This has got to be made up. Some serious scripting going on here."
Like people are getting paid to get some reaction out of me.
To see what I'm going to do or say. Like it's some form of entertainment.
Call it paranoia or whatever, but sometimes I get those feelings
that something just isn't 'right.'
Anyway, back to the survival stuff...
People don't know what it's like until they are there, doing it.
They can watch the shows from the comfort of their homes
and they can think they have an idea, but it's nothing like doing it.
I wonder how many people could last a week in the wild.
Just one week. In the wild. Without anything.
Just one survival tool to use.
Well, maybe even 3 survival tools.
It's cruel to only get one tool.
If you had 3 tools to use, what would they be?
I'd want a pot to boil water in,
a knife or hatchet to cut wood with,
and probably a fire starter.
I can't say I've ever been in the wilderness.
I've been camping, and portaging.
But I wasn't alone doing those.
I can't say I have any survival skills.
Would be an asset to acquire some though.
Just in case I'd ever need them. For whatever reason.
It's good to know how to live off the land.
Something tells me that the world isn't going to stay this way.
Anything could change. We're nuclear disasters away from
having no place to live, no water, no electricity, nothing.
If I'm ever in a situation that calls for surviving off the land,
I'd want to be prepared for that. If it should come to it.
Just some things about it would be hard to get used to.
