Things Happen for a Reason

A couple years ago, I met a guy. It was my birthday.
We haven't really hung out much since we met.
He lived with a friend of mine for a while.
A couple people 'warned' me about him.
But I'm not the type who listens to rumours.
I'd rather find out for myself.
Because sometimes rumours aren't true.

Anyway, we started talking on the phone more recently
and he invited me to his birthday party.
He wanted to hang out with me before his party so I said okay.
The plan was to go for coffee.
When I got there, he said that his buddy invited us over for dinner.
So we went to his buddy's place for dinner.

Everything was fine until they were drinking and it was getting late.
I said I had to leave to get home to study for a test.
Which is tomorrow. But my 'friend' wouldn't take me to the bus stop.
It was dark and I don't know the neighbourhood very well.

His excuse was that he had to leak every 10 minutes...
He just wanted to stay and keep drinking.
So I don't think I should go to his birthday party.
Everyone will be drinking. I don't know them very well, either.

I don't mind when plans change.
I don't mind when 'friends' would rather go somewhere else
or do something else.
What bothers me is when they don't have any concern for my safety.
When they put their booze before my needs.
That bothers me. No consideration.

Anyway, like I said, everything was fine before that.
Just I hadn't planned on going so far away for so long.

What ended up happening is that one of the guys gave me a lift
to the mall so I could catch a bus from there.
Saving me half my trip
and saving me from having to stand out in the cold and the dark.
So I guess everything worked out in the end.

But next time, I'd rather not hang out if there's going to be drinking.
Because usually people don't give a crap when they are drinking.
Plus, I don't drink anymore.
Watching others drink isn't my idea of a good time.

I know things happen for a reason though.
Just whatever the reason is, I haven't figured it out, yet.
