It's been a really long night. I downloaded filezilla and have been trying to get it to connect to another server. I almost did, but it was failing to open a specific port to retrieve the directory.
I've spent hours and hours trying to get it to work. At least I can say that I'm not the only one having these issues. I can also say that at least I got this far without having much computer/network knowledge. Everything I've been doing would be so much easier if I knew what I was doing and how to do it. I'm literally learning as I go. Sometimes it pays off being persistent. Other times it pisses you off because it still seems like no matter how much you persist, progress just isn't being made. I thought it was the firewall. I went through the Internet Information Service Manager thing and did all that stuff. There was a part in the tutorial I just couldn't understand.
The guy was doing port forwarding through his firewall. Which of course I don't know how to do.
I'm going to get filezilla to work if it is the last damn thing that I do.
The thing/things I need to do to get it to actually work is/are probably so stupidly simple, yet I'm just not getting it. I know I'm missing something here. Otherwise it would be working. I'm so close. So very close.
I didn't do anything for Canada Day. I was consumed with this thing.
My son was with his Dad. I tried to call, but of course he didn't answer the phone.
No surprise there. I hate when he ignores me. Yet, if he needs me I'm expected to be here.
But that's a different story.
I'm trying to set up a website. I've got a lot of things done already.
Basically, I want to learn the ins and outs of the rest of the stuff.
Just is frustrating considering my limited knowledge of basic stuff.
I'm not an IT person, not a web developer, not even computer savvy.
I'm just an average person.
I'm actually surprised I could follow the steps in these tutorials.
Well, most of them. Just filezilla is PISSING ME OFF.
These things are probably really easy for people who know this stuff.
I appreciate that the software is free. I really do.
What is pissing me off is that it's taking so long to figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong.
I've tried so many things. None of them worked.
Anyway, that is my gripe for the week.

Hi Abby, Need some help with this?
Hi Sean :) Yes, please. I know that I have to open ports somehow, but not sure how to do that.
There's lots of ways that port could be closed. I'd need a little information about your setup. Operating system, Router, Modem etc. Send me a mail though. Don't post it here. I will actually be out in your neck of the woods on Wednesday and I might be able to drop in. Not sure yet though and I think you're sleeping before work anyway?
