Monday Mantras

Been thinking about things and looking them up, taking notes, then looking up other things.

Mostly thinking about the ego. The thought systems and belief systems are not only of the mind, they are of the ego as well. The ego influences our thoughts and beliefs. The ego tricks us into believing in the power of guilt feelings and being separated from our spiritual sources (our individuality). It tricks us into believing that the separation is real, that guilt is real, that shame is also real.

When really separation, guilt, and shame are smoke screens. Distracting us from mindfulness. The ego wants us to be mindless so that it can operate at full capacity, so that it can run our lives, and so we identify with it and not with what we really are.

The ego is in charge (largely) of the thinking, feeling, and acting parts of ourselves. We ARE a self because of the ego. We can move beyond the ego, and beyond perception, but this is extremely difficult because we need to increase our awareness to the full extent, and become mindful. Essentially expanding our consciousness. The ego's goal is to keep us unconscious and to keep the 'mind's eye' blind so that we don't see what is really going on with our inner worlds.

What I learned recently is that the inner world (the mind) is the CAUSE which affects our outer world (reality), the EFFECT. That is tied into the Universal Law of Causation. Every Effect has a Cause and every Cause has an Effect.

Which brings me to Impatience. Patience is a virtue. When we train our minds to be patient, we observe another Universal Law called The Law of Gestation. Everything takes time and there is a time and place for everything. Sometimes the time and place is HERE and NOW, but sometimes the time and place is THERE and THEN. Knowing the difference between those and when the right time and place is for certain circumstances vastly improves our capacity for being patient.

For example: The night before last night... I was making plans with a friend to hang out. We don't see a lot of each other because I am trying to keep busy. Because I have lots of learning to do, and building of myself so I can become equipped to deal with life differently and more effectively...

Anyway, the story goes.... I told him that I was going to visit my Grandmother FIRST and THEN I would call him when I got home. But.... Being extremely impatient, he attempted to call me BEFORE I got home. Also, he'll keep trying to make plans with me when I cannot make any because I am a lot busier than I used to be. When I am right in the MIDDLE of doing something, he will call and want me to drop everything I am doing to hang out. Which I don't always have the time for. I only have a few openings during the week.

Also, for another example of impatience... When we are waiting in the drive-through for coffee and they are taking a while, he will become impatient. He will start sighing. He will complain that it's taking too long. The trick is to know when the time and place is. It is wherever and WHENever it is. We do not NEED immediate results. We are tricked into wanting and needing everything to be convenient and instantaneous. We DO NOT NEED things to be instantaneous or convenient. Because those two things cause us to become more and more impatient. "Good things happen to those who WAIT"

Personally, I know I can be impatient at times. I do not like to wait. I do not like huge lineups, or calling a government line (like The Canada Revenue Agency) and getting a busy signal like 99/100 times. Or waiting on someone who is really slow at doing their job, getting stuck in traffic when I really need to be somewhere at a certain time. ANY situation that causes me to become impatient is generally NOT a pleasant situation. BUT becoming AWARE of the fact that I am becoming impatient is KEY because when I realize that I am becoming impatient, I have the CHOICE on how to DEAL with it. Deal with impatience by learning that it is NOT the end of the world to WAIT for something/someone, anything/anyone.

Like if he had WAITED for me to get home AND CALL HIM, like I said I was going to do, he wouldn't have wasted his time calling me when I was not home yet. Impatience leads to frustration. Frustration leads to aggrevation, which leads to even more impulsivity. Lack in self-control. In fact, the DESIRE for control is often what makes us impatient in the first place. We cannot ever have control over every single circumstance/situation/person/time in our lives. We do NOT control THINGS, PEOPLE, TIME. With a great deal of practice we CAN control our minds. With that power comes great responsibility. The responsibility that we take for ourselves and our lives. THAT is the ONLY thing that we CAN control. Yet, we seek to have control over what we never can have control over. Because, again, our ego tricks us to think that we can. It tricks us into believing that it's important to have ABSOLUTE control. We only have partial control, UNLESS we have FULL control over the functions of our minds. Then and ONLY then will we ever be 'in control'.

So many people do not realize that. The thing with free will is that our wills are free to be powerful. Yet we will for the impossible most of the time. How do you make the impossible possible? We can't! The ego tricks us to believing that we can. So it tries to convince us, in many ways, to seek the control that we cannot have. To seek everything that we cannot have, or to seek what is going to BLOCK, LIMIT, OBSCURE, HIDE, BURY the truth. Which is that free will means that we can use our minds to activate our willpower. In order to achieve what is ACTUALLY possible! Not to be fooled into thinking, feeling, or acting (reactively) on the stupidity of the blockages/limitations/obscurities and to then seek what is hidden/burried.

Once we are able to SEE that the blockages/limitations/obscurities are not even real, and never have been.... We are able to realize things we hadn't before. Whether or not we consciously or unconsciously avoid/deny it isn't real.

The blockages/limitations/obscurities are ALL the TRICKS the ego plays on the mind to make us mindless instead of mindful. We only become mindful when we expand our consciousness by evolving. We evolve when we acknowledge the truth and see it for what it is (appreciation). We cannot fully appreciate things that are outside our awareness. We have to be self-aware to be able to understand ourselves.

What do people really want? Understanding! Foremost. We want others to 'get us' or 'get where we are coming from'. Because understanding gives us validation. We don't get validation through the ways the ego has taught us. The ego teaches us the opposite. It lies to us. All of the time. But... Being aware of THAT means that we can ask ourselves and keep asking ourselves what the truth of the matter really is.

"Is this a trick? Or is this real?"

Which brings me to lucid dreaming. Being aware inside a dream that it IS a dream means you have more control over a dream. Then you can access things in dreams you may need to interpret. Things inside your mind. The problem is that with dreaming, you are only conscious enough to have the dream. Not to be actively participating and aware of it being a dream. Lucid dreams are powerful tools to increase your consciousness, your awareness. To evolve. By using your mind.

The thing with most of us is that we identify ourselves as individuals through our bodies and we don't identify ourselves as a union of minds. We think we ARE our bodies. We think OTHERS ARE their bodies. This is what the ego wants and has been teaching us for our whole lives. We are what we THINK we are.

Like Eminem sang:

"And I am, whatever you say I am
If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?
I don't know (it's just the way I am)."

(We accept it to be true because we believe it is).
Why would our egos lie to us all our lives? Aren't we supposed to be able to trust ourselves?
We are 'selves' because our egos want us to believe we are individuals.
When we become mindless (which is what the ego wants) we become egotistical and the ego has full control.
When we become mindful (which the ego does not want) we become spiritual and the ego has zero control.
When we become spiritual beings rather than individuals, and we move beyond ego and perception, eventually the ego ceases to exist. Then we are no longer fooled into believing all the lies.
The lies are how the ego defends itself, and protects itself.

Also, if we treat the ego like an enemy, it will attack us. Making the blockages/limitations/obscurities even bigger than before. To overwhelm us and keep us from making spiritual progress.

Well we are lead to believe (through lies and manipulation from our egos) that we are whatever it says we are. And lead NOT to believe that we are whatever WE SAY we are.

So distinguishing fact (the truth beyond ego and perception)
from lies (what our egos tell us to be and tells us that we are, and tells us what not to be and what we aren't)

Is how we can tell ourselves that we are NOT what our egos say we are. We are not 'selves'. We are partners of spiritual awakening and evolving consciousness as it was always intended.
