Why Do I Have to Do These Things?

Man, today has to have been the longest day I have had in a long time. Mostly because I'm doing a day shift, but it had A LOT to do with the guard I had to 'train'. He wasn't paying much attention to his job so I took away his net privs. Yeah, I know that's being a b*tch, but if you are working, then you have to at least TRY to pay attention. Especially when your only job is access control.

I couldn't believe that someone as immature as he is has a better site (at the airport). He makes like 4 more bucks an hour than I do. What is up with that? I had 2 days of training at this site and he only had one. He is pretty lucky because I made it easy on him. I did like 98% of the work. There was a flood in the washroom and it was the men's washoom so I couldn't go in there to check it out. I asked him 3 times to go look at how bad it was so I could call the maintainace guy to come fix it. He was more concerned about e-mailing his girlfriend than preventing a potential slip + law suit. I told him I wasn't putting my *ss on the line so he could do something that he should be doing at home.

Not only this, but he took off his uniform during the shift to go steal something out of the vending machine. I should have stopped him, but I was stuck at the desk. I am so glad that I have the rest of the shift to myself!

I mean, I don't mind filling in for people. I'm filling in for a woman whose husband died. It is a good reason to take time off work, so I don't mind helping out. I was supposed to start today at 3pm, then I got a message from work saying I had to be there 4 hours earlier. That part was fine. I was just a bit sour that they didn't ask me to come in early when they gave me the shift. Another thing that I was sour about was the fact that I had other shifts booked and they made me cancel them because they booked me at this post without even asking me if I could take those shifts. They've been filling in gaps and I'm just a filler. My supervisor told me they are looking for full-timers here and I'm thinking about applying. I already have the training. I already have experience. I was like an hour early for work today. That demostrates dedication and if it doesn't, I don't know what does.

I'm just thinking that they are pulling fast ones on me and taking advantage of my willingness to work for them. They could at least ask me if I can work instead of assuming that I had no plans. They better be prepared to fill in for me when I take time off!
