People everywhere dream of amassing a fortune,
but that takes time, talent, skills, sometimes luck.
So they resort to scamming others into giving up their cash.
Bad investments are all over the place. We could literally trip over them.
I've been scammed before, many have.
One scam is when a fake company calls you and tells you
that there's some sort of security breach coming from your computer.
They want money to 'fix' the problem that doesn't exist.
There was a scam over Facebook a while ago.
Someone created a fake Robin Williams Facebook page
and they sent friend requests to random people.
Then they had a spiel about donating money to an orphanage in Africa.
Of course people all over the world loved and respected Robin Williams.
So they got pulled into this scam. Thinking it was real.
I found a few phone numbers online and called to report this.
One was a lawyer and I was lucky enough to find the lawyer representing him.
So I called and left a message with my name and phone number.
I was surprised that they called back so quickly.
They gave me their email address and I sent them screenshots I took
of all the messages the scammers were sending me as evidence.
I was getting calls from these scammers multiple times every day.
And they were contacting me through gmail.
What was funny was I told them that I knew the Facebook page was fake,
and they didn't even deny it. They just asked me how I knew.
All I said was that one was real, and the other was theirs.
Then I told them that I contacted his lawyer.
Then all communication from them ceased. Thankfully.
It was to the point they were harassing me for money.
If they were harassing me,
I wonder how many other people they were harassing. Daily.
I wonder how much money they got.
I never heard anything about any prosecutions or anything in the news.
All they told me was that they were going to contact Facebook
to have the page removed and the account that made the page terminated.
This all happened before his suicide.
I've told this story to a few people but since it was kept out of the media,
people don't believe me and of course I don't get any credit for exposing it.
Not that I care about getting the credit for it.
All I want is for people to believe me when I tell the truth.
The story just seems so far fetched that I would be involved in any way.
Or that I'd have the brains or the ability to find contact info for his lawyers.
It was online. Anyone can find anything online. Literally.
What I wanted was for the scammers to stop harassing me
and most of all justice for Robin.
Nobody should be using his good name to scam anyone out of money.
I guess that is why it was kept out of the media.
But it would be nice if people would believe me.
All the proof I have are those emails I sent to his lawyers.
They thanked me for calling them.
I guess they were surprised to get a call from Canada.
I was just watching a video on The 10 Biggest Scams of All Time.
Some of them were pretty bold.
They sounded too good to be true, but people fell for them.
Lots of people in jail for getting caught. Some never got caught.
